Arrogant, Selfish, Cowardly Fools

"War IS the answer."  "War is GOOD."  There.  I said it.  Huh?  What did he say?

What is so odd about those statements is that there would be any controversy over them.  Those statements are as likely to be correct - or wrong - as are the reverse statements.  Fighting evil is GOOD.  And there is - and always has been - evil in this world.  Yes, Johnnie and Sally, there are "good guys" and there are "bad guys."

Peace can be the wrong answer.  Doing nothing in the face of evil is corrupt and cowardly.  "We can make peace in our time."  Mankind has been fighting wars for thousands of years and yet now - while we are here on this earth - that can change if only we would "give peace a chance."  We are the saviors of the world, and because we are here this can happen without war.  Evil  will melt if only we - being so intelligent and so sophisticated - get the word out.  Drop your guns!  Make love, not war!  We're here now, and all is well in the world because it is our time - our generation.  How arrogant!  And how delusional!

Hundreds of thousands of people were being tortured, gassed, raped, and murdered.  Fathers were being put into shredding machines as their wives and children watched. But hey - we should never have gone to their assistance.  Why not?  Well, we could have used our military here, at home, to improve our own lot.  Maybe the soldiers could have repaired the levies in New Orleans.  Perhaps they could have provided us all free health care, or lowered the price of the gasoline that fuels our SUVs.  (But hey, we sent our troops over there "for the oil," right?  And that was bad - huh?  And, by the way, don't you dare drill for the stuff anywhere in the world or build any facilities to refine it.  Just complain about the price and our dependency on the foreigners.)

If only they would put down their guns we could have "peace in our time" - we can fiddle as Rome burns.  After all, we are alive now and we are the chosen ones.  We don't need to fight evil.  Let's party!  Pass the free food.  Where's the free housing?  How about those free condoms?  And don't forget the free porn.  How utterly disgusting, vile, cowardly and selfish.  Bring them all home - all's well in the world - at least our world.  Let those foreigners figure it out for themselves.  It's not our problem.  We've got champagne to pour and social programs to fund.

Stop kidding yourself.  Our forefathers were not all that stupid.  Thank God they were willing to fight evil.  Thank God for the American military service.
